John F Hunt Group are pleased to announce that they have finalised the acquisition of Portsmouth based BD Nuclear Ltd.

Established in 2006 by Dave Dougan, BD Nuclear are involved in conventional Concrete Cutting, Drilling and Robotic Demolition throughout the UK.

However in recent years they have focused on the Nuclear Decommissioning Industry, where they are now recognised as one of the foremost specialists in Metal, Concrete Cutting and Contaminated Surface Removal.

BD Nuclear have pushed the boundaries of Diamond Wire Sawing technology to enable the size reduction of complex metal process plant and concrete structures. Working closely with specialist suppliers they have developed their own bespoke equipment to provide unparalleled output within potentially challenging contaminated environments.

Dave Dougan remains as Managing Director and will be supported by the existing management team of John F Hunt Group, many of whom have in depth experience of Nuclear Decommissioning Industry and Procedures.

Apart from Hunt’s existing Concrete Cutting Division and Plant Fleet, BD will also be able to draw support from the Group’s national network of Power Depots, as well as its in-house Engineering and Design Department.

With an established and impressive client base across all UK Nuclear Sites and involvement on major projects at Winfrith, Dounreay, Bradwell and Trawsfynydd; Dave Dougan stated that “inclusion into the John F Hunt Group will enable the company to reach a new level in this highly specialised market place. We also have over 11 years’ experience and in excess of 580,000 man hours working in the Nuclear Environment”.

In anticipation of the relationship and using 55 Newton concrete, John F Hunt and BD have already constructed a Demonstration and Training Facility at a Hunt depot in Essex and in December successfully trialed a new Wall Shaving technique suitable for use within the Nuclear Industry. These premises will now continue to be utilised for the training of staff from both companies.

John Hall, Group Chairman added “the alliance between the two businesses should prove a huge asset to the John F Hunt Group in its penetration of specialist sectors, and with a circa £10m turnover it firmly places us as one of the largest specialist Concrete Cutting operations in the UK”.
