Last week, the John F Hunt Concrete Cutting depot in Grays welcomed two very special guests…
Back in December, we held a festive art competition with a creative construction twist! The competition was split into two separate challenges for children in Key Stages 1 and 2. KS1 children aged 4 to 7 went crazy with colourful designs and accompanying names inspired by an outline of a robotic demolition machine – a BROKK 280. On a blank sheet of paper, KS2 children between 8 and 11 invented their own concrete cutting machine with an equally epic name to match!
The competition, which offered Lego and construction-related goodies as the grand prize, was a resounding hit, receiving an incredible 292 submissions.
In the end, only two winners could be chosen, and after much deliberation, Sophie, aged 7, who created “George Power Bot”, and Chima, aged 11, who designed “The Scorpix”, were chosen as our worthy champions.

The Easter half term presented the perfect opportunity to invite Sophie, Chima, and their parents, to visit the John F Hunt Concrete Cutting team and see George Power Bot and The Scorpix brought to life!
The day began with a tour of the facilities and a look at some of the smaller concrete cutting tools, with plenty of time for questions and answers from Business Development Manager Patricia McEnroe, Senior Hire Manager Jake Pooley and Senior Fitter Aaron Willmott-Rice.

Then came the much-anticipated highlight of the day…a rare up-close look at the Brokk 180 and Brokk 330 robotic demolition machines that proudly display their new names.
