Business Activities...

Formed in 1982 John F Hunt primarily concentrated on Demolition and Industrial Dismantling, its growth over the decades has now seen it become one of the leading demolition contractors in the UK.

Since the late 1980’s the Group has expanded operations to encompass many construction related businesses; our vast in-house resources, making us practically self-sufficient in our operating requirements. John F Hunt is still privately owned by the Chairman, John Hall.

The implementation of ISO 45001, 9001, 14001, 50001, and 27001 Management Systems throughout the Group, show our commitment to Health, Safety, Environmental, Quality and Security standards, for our staff and clients alike.

Efficient use of resources to promote a circular economy, with close monitoring of energy, air quality, water usage, emissions and carbon levels, is carried out through all projects and businesses within the John F Hunt Group nationwide.

Our goal is to achieve Net Zero carbon by 2050, through developing more efficient technologies, recycling and waste minimalisation, monitored through the use of our digital SMARTWaste tool. We maximise secondary material use, lessening the demand on primary resources, so producing an increase in efficiency and improving project costs.

Innovation is essential for the positive development of our businesses and the protection of our surroundings by creating maintainable solutions. Our aim is to encourage resolutions that balance economic, environmental and social issues. This also creates added value for our clients, employees, subcontractors and the community in which we work.

The group at a glance
John F Hunt Limited undertakes technical demolition and structural concrete projects, by combining traditional demolition skills with engineer led enabling, civil engineering and structural formwork expertise.
Supported by the specialist Concrete Cutting and Asbestos Removal Divisions, along with our Plant and Tool Hire Companies, we provide professional services for the delivery of multi-dimensional projects, both in challenging central London locations and nationally.

The employment of strict environmental monitoring controls on our sites, protects the local environment and helps us to lower our CO2 emissions. We re-use, recover and recycle up to 98.9% of our arisings, minimal waste therefore going to landfill.

Highly trained Supervisors and Operatives are led by accomplished Project Managers. Sites are supported by a robust Health, Safety and Compliance department, qualified Engineers and time served Directors, expert in their field.

The calibre of the people we employ, combined with our investment in the latest high specification plant and equipment, ensures the safe and efficient delivery of every project.

Our Pre-Construction services undertaken by John F Hunt Limited are essential elements for all-party collaboration to guarantee project vision and a successful outcome long before the first excavator breaks the ground. Early engagement is a key element to the success of any development. It is also where the majority of all cost savings will occur, ensuring projects remain financially solvent, hence being known as the ‘Game Changer’.
At this stage, we improve value and reduce risk by providing early advice on all pre-construction activities, from commercial management, methodology and programming to design and stakeholder management. It is also essential at this stage, that actions are taken to address overall carbon reduction measures, as this is when the influence on any project is at its greatest.
A full understanding of the project, its practicalities, safe solutions, and shared information leads to a fully collaborative approach, innovative ideas, and a successful outcome. Virtual reality, BIM, and 3D visualisation promote this, allowing the demonstration of proposed designs and programming to clients and stakeholders.
With such extensive specialist businesses within the John F Hunt Group, we facilitate a universal approach to early planning, by calling upon their expertise to dovetail programming therefore maximising efficiency. Our pre-construction services, give clarity to our commitments and really is the project game changer for you.
Often employed as Principal Contractor for developers,we also undertake sub-contract works for Main Contractors and are frequently employed as a consultant to produce Construction Management Plans to aid Planning Applications.

Our specialist demolition capabilities address the complex and demanding sites we work on throughout London and the Southeast. Our returning clients and repeat business over the years reflect their trust in these capabilities.

We work in occupied premises, on busy pedestrian routes and have particular expertise in Network Rail and LUL interfaces. Due to the nature of our work, we are sympathetic to our surroundings and reduce our impact on business, people, flora and fauna whenever possible.

With increasing demand to retain and preserve architectural heritage, many of our projects require extensive temporary works in addition to the retention of the structure’s facade.

Our London projects often require structural shoring and jacking, to protect the integrity of the building, or that of adjacent properties. Our in-house structural engineering team incorporate vision and innovation in each technical design, having many challenging Party Wall Awards to their credit.

Structural steel props, wailings, shores, tubular struts, sheet piling, scaffolding and combinations of preformed sections are all used depending upon the project’s needs.

Our demolition teams are expertly conversant with problems associated with party wall and basement support works. They are frequently employed by architects, engineers and construction companies, to carry out preliminary exploratory works, totally independent of our demolition contracts.

The requirements for environmental monitoring are increasingly mandated as part of Client and Local Authority requirements and integral to our operations as a responsible contractor within the local community.

At John F Hunt our legal and voluntary commitments are of the utmost importance and as a result we have invested heavily in the latest noise, dust and vibration monitoring systems for our sites across the UK and particularly in confined inner city locations.

This allows us to deliver high value projects whist protecting the local environment in areas facing many constraints. We monitor these parameters in real time, instantly alerting project teams, enabling continuous compliance to agreed limits.
The investment has also allowed us to collect efficient and reliable data resulting in targeted mitigation in high impact areas, reducing overall risk and enhancing our environmental performance on all our projects.

With the latest technical recording devices, operated by our highly trained teams, we provide a bespoke and cost-effective monitoring service utilising the best equipment to suit every situation.

The Concrete Cutting Division supplies an environmentally agreeable alternative to traditional demolition techniques. Teams of fully qualified operatives operate a vast fleet of contemporary machinery and provide technical support to any construction project.

Typical applications apply when working in confined spaces such as basements, where access is tight or where emissions from conventional diesel engines would prove unacceptable.

Vibration free precision cutting is vital when working adjacent to Party Walls and when noise pollution is critical.
Concrete sawing and diamond drilling techniques are fast and virtually silent, enabling continuity of working and deadlines to be met.
Our extensive fleet of remote-control Robotic Excavators are electrohydraulically powered.
Producing no harmful emissions, they allow work to proceed in otherwise hazardous areas by completely removing the operator from the work face.
For non-invasive surveys and structural analysis, we offer a Ferrous Scanning service. This device can detect metal within a structure, pinpointing exact drilling positions.
The screen gives visible results and precise depth readings for report generation.

John F Hunt has been approved by the HSE to hold an asbestos licence since the foundation of the business in 1982; its Environmental Division having unrivalled experience in the decontamination, removal and treatment of asbestos containing materials.

With meticulous planning, our management team evaluates every step for the safe delivery of projects, continually providing clients with reliable technical advice, realistic programmes and accurate costings.

We understand that no two projects are the same, each job being bespoke and tailored to client and site requirements.
Our highly proficient teams ensure best practice and full compliance with current legislation.
