Volunteers from John F Hunt have proudly assisted with launching the first ReStore in the UK, marking a significant milestone in sustainable home renovation. ReStores, independently owned and operated by local Habitat for Humanity organisations, accepts donations and sells a dynamic inventory of high-quality home renovation merchandise to the public at a fraction of the retail price. This initiative provides affordable home improvement options and diverts reusable household items and building materials from landfills.
John F Hunt’s commitment to sustainability and community engagement aligns perfectly with ReStore’s mission. By providing materials for reuse, John F Hunt can extend the lifecycle of construction materials and contribute to local communities. The ReStore initiative offers an excellent opportunity to divert further construction materials from ending up in landfills, ensuring they are repurposed effectively in local communities close to our projects.
In North America, ReStore has become a significant player in the home renovation market, with an impressive annual turnover of approximately $500 million. The concept is to rival stores like B&Q by offering construction materials sourced from deconstruction sites or material wastage. This partnership with ReStore UK provides an ideal solution for managing surplus materials from sites, such as kitchen cabinets, doors, and plumbing items, which would otherwise be discarded.
The collaboration between John F Hunt and ReStore UK signifies a proactive step towards environmental sustainability and community support. By repurposing materials that would otherwise be considered waste, we can positively impact both the environment and the local economy.
