John F Hunt Provides Generator Hire in Newcastle for the Great North Run

9th December 2014

John F Hunt Power has provided generator hire in Newcastle to support the Bupa ‘Great North Run’ for the last 2 years. Regarded as one of the world’s greatest half marathons, this annual event which started in 1981 with just 12,000 runners, swelled to a record 56,000 competitors this September.

We powered the PA system at the start of the race on Newcastle’s Tyne Bridge and kept the live music going and the refreshments cold at numerous points along the route, ending appropriately enough at the finish line in the coastal town of South Shields.

John F Hunt also powered the ‘Pasta Party’ the night before which offered the thousands of participants due to run the next day, a free high carb meal to help them through the gruelling 13.2 miles.

The generators and fuel sets make up probably the most up-to-date generator fleet in the UK and were supported by a 24/7 technical team on hand in the event of any irregularities.

The event entices runners from all around the world, including many world-class athletes such as Mo Farah and Paula Radcliffe, all of whom run to raise money for local and national charities, this year alone saw approximately £28m raised from this single occasion.

This annual event also helps boost the local economy, benefiting retailers, restaurants and hotels along the route. John F Hunt Power is proud to be part of this momentous occasion in the North East.
