One of our John F Hunt Engineering Graduates, Hisham Askar, recently completed a hike to the peak of Ben Nevis (the highest mountain in the UK) to raise essential funds for the Human Relief Foundation for the Yemen Crisis. Yemen is currently experiencing one of the world’s worst humanitarian crisis, so Hisham decided he wanted to help support the vulnerable people and children.
Hisham and his party set off for Scotland on Friday evening, and after a gruelling 11 hour trip they arrived Saturday morning (with little sleep) ready to take on their challenge. Physical and mental strength were essential in undertaking the hike as at times the climbing felt “never-ending”, especially when they reached the ‘top’ only to realise there was another ‘top’ further up. They persevered through and felt a huge sense of relief and achievement when they finally reached the peak of Ben Nevis!
Hisham says “I’m really grateful for the opportunity to make a difference to the world we live in today. As a group we managed to fundraise £28,000 for the Human Relief Foundation which is absolutely amazing! The number of vulnerable people and children that this will impact is truly incredible. We all have a part to play in making the world a better place and I urge everyone to do what they can. Individually we are weak but together we are strong and can make a great difference by supporting the most unfortunate across the globe.”
Well done to Hisham and his team for this fantastic achievement!
