As part of our continuous social engagement efforts, John F Hunt Limited team members provided a much-needed helping hand at St Mungo’s Spring Gardens. Our volunteers spent two days landscaping, digging, cutting, and trimming grass/branches to completely transform the disused/derelict garden area at the homeless hostel in Lewisham.
John F Hunt Plant Hire kindly lent an 8t Hitachi excavator to assist with the shallow dig of the overgrown green area, helping the team immensely by allowing them to speed up the bulk dig and assist in reallocating grass.
Once all the area was cleared and the soil was stored to one side, the exposed ground was compacted with the 8tn bucket to provide a level and even field.
Further garden works included trimming overgrown shrubs and grass, and dismantling a disused shed, with any salvageable wood put to one side and used for future gardening works for the residents. To conclude the work, a general clean and tidy-up of the site was completed.
Overall, the garden’s landscape has been transformed into a clean and accessible area that residents can use for gardening and planting vegetation, flower beds and trees. The restored area can also be used as a communal area to place benches and tables, just in time for the summer months ahead.
The St Mungo staff, caretaker and local site residents were extremely grateful for the work carried out by the John F hunt team. Well done to all involved!
