John F Hunt Limited’s commitment to environmental sustainability is evident in our recent initiatives at the Ebury Bridge Road project. This redevelopment, the largest in Westminster to date, aims to transform the Ebury Bridge Estate into 1,850 new affordable homes. Central to our approach is the reuse of redundant items from the buildings, showcasing our dedication to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles.
A standout example of our sustainable efforts is repurposing 100-year-old roof truss timbers. Instead of being discarded, these solid, historical timbers have found new life through collaboration with the Energy Garden project at the Ebury Edge shopping area. Working with Agamemnon and his team, we’ve supplied these timbers for constructing energy-creating apparatus and planters at their new educational location. This initiative preserves historical materials and contributes to innovative, sustainable urban gardening.
Our commitment extends beyond material reuse. We’ve supported the Energy Garden project by providing equipment and logistical support for outdoor space design and creation. Collaborating with Bouygues, we facilitated crane lifts to ensure efficient material transportation. This demonstrates our dedication to seamless project execution and community support.
Managing the Ebury Bridge Estate redevelopment is complex. We’ve overseen every detail from the embryonic stages of this project and planning together with stakeholder engagement have been essential to minimise disruption to the local community. Meticulous coordination has been paramount, with residents and businesses nearby, as well as the live operational Network Rail lines.
Working in a congested and sensitive environment required innovative solutions. We implemented measures to minimise our impact on surrounding roads, coordinated with utility providers, and engaged with residents through a dedicated Community Liaison Officer. These efforts ensured safety and maintained positive community relations.
Our dedication to sustainability and community welfare has been recognised through various accolades. Participating in the Considerate Constructors Scheme, we’ve achieved excellence in audits. Additionally, we’ve initiated local community projects, such as supporting local suppliers, sponsoring food banks, and assisting elderly residents.
The Ebury Bridge Road initiative sets a new standard for sustainable urban regeneration through careful planning, innovative solutions, and a steadfast commitment to ESG principles. As we continue our work, we remain dedicated to creating a positive, lasting impact on the environment and the communities we serve.
